EYCLF July Online Masterclass Recap

Winning the Job Hunt

Practical lessons on crafting stronger CVs, resumes, cover letters, job applications and interview stories that connect with employers.

EYCLF July Masterclass Series flyer

On Sunday, 27 July 2025, the Emerging Young Corporate Leaders Fellowship hosted another insightful edition of its online masterclass series. The session was practical, engaging and focused on helping young professionals become more competitive throughout the job-search process.

Our speaker, Frank Koomson, guided participants through the essential elements of preparing application documents and presenting themselves more effectively to employers.

Masterclass Topic

Winning the Job Hunt: Crafting CVs, Cover Letters and Applications That Get Results

The session examined the real difference between a CV and a resume, and why understanding that distinction matters. Although both documents are important, the conversation focused particularly on building a clear, targeted resume that speaks directly to the requirements of a job role.

Practical Learning Through Live Examples

A major highlight of the session was the use of application documents from two EYCLF Fellows. These examples allowed participants to see how structure, clarity, relevance and presentation can be improved in real documents—not only in theory.

The masterclass also explored interview preparation and the importance of communicating experiences in a clear, truthful and memorable way.

Tell your story—and be truthful about it.

Authenticity, preparation and self-awareness remain powerful tools when presenting yourself to employers. A strong application may create the opportunity, but candidates must also be prepared to explain their experiences, value and professional journey confidently.

Key Lessons from the Session

The masterclass reinforced three important principles for young professionals navigating the job market.

01

Target Your Application

Tailor your resume, cover letter and supporting information to the specific role rather than sending the same generic application everywhere.

02

Communicate Clearly

Use clear structure, relevant achievements and concise language so employers can quickly understand your experience and value.

03

Tell an Authentic Story

Prepare to explain your professional journey truthfully and connect your experiences to the opportunity you are pursuing.

The EYCLF Experience — June Edition

The EYCLF Experience — June Edition

Experience, knowledge and value met curiosity, a willingness to learn and a growth mindset during an impactful in-person EYCLF masterclass.

What is formed when experience, knowledge and value meet curiosity, eagerness to learn and a growth mindset?

It creates a leader—not merely an employee. It sparks a fire that can light every room you walk into.

The Emerging Young Corporate Leaders Fellowship hosted its June masterclass in person at the University of Ghana Graduate Business School. It brought together young professionals and experienced speakers for a practical conversation about career growth, workplace readiness, professional value and intentional leadership.

Speaker Insights and Reflections

Each speaker approached workplace success from a different perspective, but all three emphasised intentional growth and personal responsibility.

01

Eric Boateng Siaw

Eric challenged participants to assess their values, strengths and weaknesses before entering the workplace. Even when the environment is difficult, young professionals should give their best, build their networks and remain valuable. During national service, they should offer help, seek feedback and continue growing—even when no one is watching.

02

Kweku Osei-Sarfo

Kweku reminded participants that a degree may open the door, but attitude determines whether one remains in the room. He encouraged young professionals to speak up in meetings, communicate their value, understand workplace culture and protect their health intentionally.

03

Joshua Mensah

Joshua presented five important success buckets: knowledge, skills, networks, resources and reputation. Together, these elements help young professionals build the capacity, relationships and credibility required for sustainable growth.

Opportunities run through people. Be kind to them.
